Objectives

The School’s philosophy:

Allows children from the age of 3 onwards to pursue their schooling at their own rhythm.

Children are encouraged to discover and interpret what the adult teaches. Teachers act as guides, careful not to impose adult ideas and beliefs upon the children.

At La Découverte we motivate the children to learn for themselves rather than learning to please the teacher. The programs are child-centred and the pupils are active participants in their learning - they ask questions and seek answers, and gain true understanding of the material.

The academic program is based on that of the Swiss public school system which facilitates the transition to secondary school.

The main teaching language is French but children have an "English Day" with an English mother-tongue teacher, once or twice a week, depending on their grade.

The main aims are the following:

A- Interaction of the child with the surroundings,

interaction with the animal, vegetable and mineral worlds.
interaction with people using French, math, English, the arts, etc. as a mean of communication.
interaction with objects.

B- Self-awareness

interaction with one’s body
response to one’s thoughts, feelings, dreams etc.
